In March of 2013, the Niagara Health System (NHS) opened the doors of a brand new hospital in St. Catharines for maternity care. As of that date, all obstetrical patients now deliver at the new St. Catharines Hospital on Fourth Avenue. A physician will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for patients in labour and for any urgent obstetrical problems. OB triage is available for patients over 20 weeks of pregnancy 24/7 at NHS Hospital 4th floor Women and Babies unit.
While it would be ideal, it is not sustainable to be on call 24/7 for our obstetrical patients. At this time, we are a small group of four similarly-minded family physicians who cover call the vast majority of the time; therefore expect to have a 1 in 4 change of delivering with your care provider.
While this may not affect you directly, there is a possibility, if situations arise, that you may see another Obstetrician depending on the circumstances. We will do our best to be active in your care from start to finish.
If you have an emergency related to your pregnancy:
And require immediate attention call 911
Under 20 weeks of pregnancy- visit the Emergency Department at the St Catharines hospital
